Looking for a safe and gentle intro to exercise for your patients?
‘Body Renewal & Core Connection’ is a 4 week core-fitness program designed by a physiotherapist for her clients post injury and convalescence.
Even when we know that our patients need to move and exercise more, it can be tough to know what exercise to suggest to them:
- “Is it safe if they have comorbidities?”
- “What should I recommend for someone who’s be inactive for years?”
- “What if they have arthritis?”
- “Is it something they’ll be intimidated by…and so end up not doing?”
Hi, I’m Carmen Baier 👋
Bridge & Bend Founder and Physiotherapist
Since qualifying in 2009, I’ve worked as a registered physiotherapist and Pilates instructor both internationally and here in South Africa. I’ve seen so many patients face similar challenges, not only in sports injury rehab but with movement in general. That’s why I took the core principles I use in one-on-one rehab and developed a 4-week online program—blending core rehabilitation techniques (the kind I use with patients after back pain or injury) with an intro to Pilates.
This approach hits the sweet spot: gentle and safe, yet building challenge each week… and best of all (!!) helping clients form a lasting habit of regular exercise. Making movement a lifestyle really is life-changing! (I know I don’t need to explain the physical and mental benefits here 😉 You get it!)
Alongside my one-on-one work with sports and MSK patients in Johannesburg, the Bridge & Bend programs make movement-based therapy accessible to a broader audience, offering clients a structured, flexible way to build resilience and reconnect with their bodies. If you think your patients could benefit from a program that supports their rehab journey and builds lasting habits, let’s connect!

Which of your patients would benefit from this program?
- Anyone who’s been inactive for a prolonged period!
- It’s great for perimenopausal women who suddenly feel their body is a bit foreign
- People 6+ weeks post abdominal surgery with the surgeon’s all-clear to exercise (it’s actually ideal for them…it’s a complete core rehab program, including education around anatomy)
- Anyone with STABLE chronic or recurrent MSK conditions where lifestyle modifications are SO key (such as back pain or arthritis)
- People dealing with high levels of stress (slow, gentle, mindful exercise helps the body to rejuvenate without acting as an additional stressor, and the breath focus of the program – with special emphasis on slow, deep breathing – boosts the parasympathetic nervous system.)
- And basically ANYONE who needs a gentle introduction to exercise…but who can’t get to a gym regularly, or who might be intimidated by the gym or a yoga studio.
‘Body Renewal & Core Connection’ is an online fitness program. After the 4 week program, your patients will have a great base of core strength, will have a grasp of good basic movement and technique…and will have taken the first steps in creating a habit of movement for life!
Client success stories:*
DRA & hernia (pre-op):
“It was difficult for me to find a program that I could trust and that would take me step by step through the process of regaining core strength.
Carmen takes time to explain how to do each exercise properly. The program builds up each week at a good pace. There are enough new challenges each week that it doesn’t get boring.
I am loving doing the exercises and feeling strong again. I can already see that the area under my hernia is a lot flatter than previously!
[Now] I am feeling motivated and strong. I’m excited to keep building strength and feeling good in my body again.”
Emily
Lx osteoporosis & hiatus hernia:
“I’ve been looking for a convenient pilates course for some time. (I was anxious due to an osteoporosis diagnosis in the lower spine.) I felt that an experienced physio would take me through a very safe beginners programme.
I found the explanations about how to become aware of one’s core, how to engage the core and why that’s important very useful.
By the start of the week three workouts I realised I was actually gaining strength, able to do some of the exercises with less strain than earlier or to a higher level.
[Now] I feel confident, it feels like an accomplishment. I feel like I’ve made a new discovery that will help me feel comfortable about myself.”
MH
Post-op appendectomy:
“Before starting the program I had post appendectomy pain and restricted movement. I was easing back into running and [needed] to rebuild my core safely.
I liked that I could do the workouts in my own time. I enjoyed the change from strength training (which I was struggling with) to the yoga.
It was a relief to realise something was working, that I could be able to do something again to get back fitness. Loved the program. I feel like it was exactly what I needed at that stage of my surgery recovery.
Now life looks so much better. I’m excited to get out and exercise again instead of apprehensive.
I’m looking forward to running. Lots and lots and lots of running!”**
Tam
(**Tam had abdominal surgery and received her surgeon’s clearance before starting the program.)
